Fire Prevention - Ugh !!!!
I don’t quite know what it is with me perhaps its because I’ve got old but for some unknown reason I just can’t grasp elementary logical reasons anymore for some of to days modern actions, rules, regulations, and demands that I am subject too or suggested I do, these instructions are so written in an authoritative way [failure to comply will result in ............[?] or some such language].
With 5th of November fireworks and bonfires which usually starts two weeks before and last for another week afterwards, needless to say the fire risks involved and the actual fire damage resulting in, persons loss of life. scaring and disfigurement etc, homes and business burnt to the ground as a direct result of 5th November I ask why the Government hasn’t banned and made it unlawful for this event. [I’m not at this stage going to comment on the distress it causes on wild life and animals]. Why on earth the Fire Brigade authorities are not partitioning the government to ban this disgusting occasion I don’t know perhaps its that they are more interested in getting me to remove my front door mat.
Now, who’s a naughty boy then - !!!!!!!?.
Note: The following letter. I have had to blank some of my written very rude comments and remarks I made when I first received it for fear of causing offence to the lady visitors.
The following letter: ‘publish and be damned’.
First: Technically I am the Occupier of my flat but in view of this computer age I find it very annoying that I shouldn’t be addressed correctly [Mr M Morphey etc] - Most certainly a tasking e-mail reply forthcoming.
My offending front door mat measures 30-inches by 18-inches and made of Coir matting. According to the Avon Fire Brigade this must be a fire risk for they have asked for it to be removed baring in mind I must do so as its for my own safety. Hummmmmm can anyone explain this?.
When I first became the ‘Occupier’ - excuse me - !!!!! many years ago I needed a fire escape plan for if/should my block of flats ‘go up in smoke‘ what would be my best plan to get out. I consulted [I paid for] an independent Fire Prevention Expert to advise me.
The block of flats centre stairs, no way as that would act as a funnel for the smoke and flames and I would most certainly be dead before I reached ground level.
Recommendation: Remain in my flat for as long as possible having blocked the front door off with wet towels to stop the ingress of smoke and finally throw myself out of one of the windows having first thrown out my mattress and free fall onto it, however should I miss be thankful if only my legs were broken, my back was broken, my neck was broken or all three or worst of all becoming impaled on the metal spiky fence but be thankful I was still alive.

I would have thought the owners of the block should be doing a darn sight more to ensure your safety in a fire than complain about you leaving a mat outside, Mick! When you do throw yourself out onto your mattress, can you then sue them for your injuries??
Hi Jennyta.
Thank you for your comment.
You know what I never thought of that, however I would much rather still have the use of everything and be ‘poor’ and not on my back in a hospital bed being wealthy - Mick.
